House of the Faun

At the doorway, look down. Set into the pavement is the word HAVE, Latin for "welcome". Step inside and you're in one of the largest private houses in Pompeii: nearly three thousand square metres, filling an entire block. It was built in the early second century BC, when Pompeii was still a Samnite town, by one of its richest families.
